Richard Atkinson (Master Designer of Papier Mache Art)

Jamaican artist, born October 1970 in the parish of St. Thomas. Richard is a self-taught artist having gained the basic principle of art in school at age 10. His job as a sign artist and illustrator after leaving school allowed him to perfect his skill. Today, Richard is an acclaimed "master in papier mache art"l. His work, through perseverance and diligence has won him several medals in Jamaica National festivals. He also won the best hand crafted product at the Caribbean Gift & Art Show 2002, Greneda. His artwork has also taken him to group shows in the United States, Europe, Canada, and throughout the Caribbean region. He mounted his first exhibition entitled "Symphony" on June 16, 2002 at the exclusive Pegasus Gallery, where he saw 30 pieces of work being purchased by art collectors worldwide.
